Lithuania is the southernmost of the three European Baltic states. The former Soviet republic borders Poland, Latvia, and Belarus. The capital Vilnius with its medieval old town is not far from the Belarusian border. The city also features architecture in the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles. The 18th-century cathedral was built on the site of a pagan temple. Located on a hill, the Gediminas Tower offers a wide view and is a symbol of the city and the country. ― Google
