The former Soviet Republic of Armenia is a country in the mountainous Caucasus region between Asia and Europe. The country was one of the earliest Christian cultures and had numerous religious sites. These include the Greco-Roman temple of Garni and the 4th-century cathedral of Etchmiadzin, the seat of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church. The Khor Virap Monastery is a pilgrimage site not far from Mount Ararat, a dormant volcano behind the Turkish border. ― Google
