Estonia is a northern European country bordering the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Finland and was formerly part of the Soviet Union. The varied landscape of the national territory, which also includes over 1,500 islands, is characterized by rocky beaches, and forests with old trees and lakes. Numerous castles, churches, and hill forts can be found throughout the country.
